Veteran Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. The news was confirmed by Nollywood producer Stanley Ontop, who had been advocating for financial support to help with the actor’s medical treatment prior to his death.
Tom Njemanze had been critically ill, as evidenced by hospital videos showing him frail and connected to oxygen and intravenous drips. Despite efforts to save him and widespread calls for assistance from fellow actors and fans, he succumbed to the illness.
Njemanze was a respected figure in Nollywood, known for his roles in iconic films such as Issakaba, Osuofia in London, Tokunboh, Pounds and Dollars, Brain Box, and more. He was part of the foundational generation that helped shape Nollywood during its early decades. His death is widely mourned and seen as a significant loss to the Nigerian movie industry.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders, lamenting his passing and also highlighting the persistent lack of structured healthcare support for veteran actors in Nigeria.
