Troops Rescue 31 Kidnap Victims, Neutralise Two Suspected Terrorists

For 31 families, the sound of a loved one’s return may matter more than the military statistics surrounding the operation.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA say they have rescued 31 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Katsina and Kebbi states.

The Joint Task Force North-West said the operations were conducted on September 14 and 15, 2026.

In Katsina, troops responding to abduction reports rescued 10 victims in Unguwan Daudu and Unguwan Chibauna in Funtua Local Government Area.

The rescued group included three males, seven females and an infant.In Kebbi State, troops rescued another 21 victims after responding to an abduction alert in Fafala Village, Kangiwa Local Government Area..

The military also reported the neutralisation of two suspected terrorists in Katsina, including a man it identified as Abbah Alhassan, whom it described as a terrorist kingpin.

Two other suspects were reportedly arrested, while ammunition, a motorcycle and camouflage clothing were recovered.

The rescue of the victims is significant, particularly for their families. Yet the development also exposes the continuing difficulty of preventing abductions in vulnerable communities.

ValidViewNetwork had earlier reported that successful rescue operations should not be confused with the disappearance of the kidnapping threat.

A rescued victim is a victory for the security operation. A community that no longer has to fear abduction is the larger objective.

There is also a need for careful language. The military’s description of Abbah Alhassan as a terrorist kingpin should be attributed to the military.

Unless established through the appropriate legal process, such descriptions should not be converted into independent judicial findings by the media.

ValidViewNetwork reports that security operations must therefore be judged on two fronts: the protection of lives and the lawful treatment of suspects.

The Constitution does not disappear during a security operation. Neither does the duty of the state to protect innocent citizens.

Rescuing the 31 victims is important; preventing the next abduction while respecting due process is the larger test, ValidViewNetwork reports.
