WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a rare and forceful public appearance on Thursday, First Lady Melania Trump took to the Grand Foyer of the White House to issue a definitive denial of any personal relationship or friendship with the late disgraced financier and sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
The surprise address, delivered from the same podium often used by the President for major national announcements, marks the First Lady’s most direct effort to distance herself from years of online speculation and recently surfaced Department of Justice (DOJ) files.
”I Am Not a Victim”
Standing before a small pool of reporters, the First Lady was uncharacteristically blunt. “The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today,” she said, reading from a prepared script. “I have never been friends with Epstein. I am not Epstein’s victim. Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump.”
The statement appears to be a direct response to persistent social media rumors and the January 2026 release of unredacted “Epstein Files,” which included an email exchange from 2002 between an account attributed to “Melania” and Epstein’s accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Addressing those emails, Mrs. Trump described them as “casual correspondence” and “trivial notes,” characterizing her interactions with Maxwell as nothing more than polite social graces within the overlapping circles of New York and Palm Beach high society.
Mrs. Trump sought to clarify the history of her encounters with Epstein, stating she met him for the first time in 2000 at a party she attended with her husband.
“Overlapping in social circles is common in New York City and Palm Beach,” she explained. “I had never met Epstein and had no knowledge of his criminal undertakings.”
She also took the opportunity to warn the public against “fake images and statements” circulating on social media, which she characterized as “mean-spirited attempts to defame my reputation.”
A Call for Congressional Action
In a strategic pivot, the First Lady concluded her remarks by calling on Congress to hold public hearings specifically dedicated to the survivors of Epstein’s abuse. She argued that victims should have the opportunity to have their testimonies entered into the formal congressional record.
“Each and every woman should have her day to tell her story in public if she wishes,” she stated. “Then, and only then, we will have the truth.”
The First Lady’s intervention comes at a sensitive time for the administration. After months of navigating the fallout from renewed Epstein investigations, the White House had recently pivoted its focus to foreign policy, including ongoing tensions with Iran.
By addressing the controversy head-on, Melania Trump appears to be attempting a “total reset” on the narrative, though political analysts suggest her statement may inadvertently push the Epstein scandal back into the center of the 2026 political cycle.
