INEC has opened a probe into suspicious photographs in the INEC voter register, including images some Nigerians believe are AI-generated.
The commission said so in a statement on Tuesday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee. It said it is examining the photographs, including possible technical or procedural lapses.
WHAT INEC SAYS
The register in question went online on 26 October.
INEC says it is the same preliminary register displayed at Registration Areas from 9 to 15 October.
The commission added that the online version does not reflect all ongoing data-cleanup work and is not the final certified register. It also said it flagged some questionable records during the physical display.
ValidViewNetwork can confirm that INEC has promised action on verified findings only.
THE OUTCRY
Nigerians shared screenshots of faces they believed were computer generated. The NDC asked INEC to explain images it spotted for polling units in Ward 11, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
That claim is the party’s, and INEC has not confirmed it.

INEC puts the total register at more than 103 million voters. A register with fake faces damages confidence even when the scale is small.
INEC says it will finish verification, adjudication and data-cleanup before certifying the final register on 15 December 2026. The INEC voter register will be judged on what that clean-up removes. ValidViewNetwork reports.
