BAUCHI — Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have apprehended a 22-year-old convicted drug dealer, Samuel Ogochukwu, and successfully rescued a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly being exploited as a courier to distribute illicit substances across the state.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the breakthrough occurred during a routine patrol by the command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU). Officers intercepted the minor, identified as Samuel Nkemakolan Kosi, around 11:00 AM on October 26, 2026, while he was en route to deliver a granular whitish substance suspected to be methamphetamine—commonly known as Ice—to a waiting buyer.
Upon interrogation, the teenager disclosed that he was dispatched by Ogochukwu. Acting on the intelligence, detectives swiftly tracked down and arrested the principal suspect at his hideout.
A thorough search of Ogochukwu’s shop and residence yielded a significant cache of controlled drugs and illicit substances, including:
- 3.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- 17 sachets of 100mg tramadol capsules
- 5 sachets of 300mg pregabalin capsules
- 7 sachets of diazepam
- 12 Exol tablets
- 2 wraps of a substance locally known as “Yellow Boys”
- 1 sachet of “Shine Shine Leather”
During preliminary investigations, the principal suspect reportedly confessed that his drug supplies were regularly funneled through commercial waybills originating from Onitsha, Anambra State.
Authorities confirmed that the rescued 14-year-old has been placed under protective care in adherence to juvenile best practices and will be reunited with his family following professional counseling. Meanwhile, the primary suspect remains in custody and will face formal charges in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
Commending the VCRU operatives for their unwavering dedication and tactical precision, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, emphasized that the command has secured four major drug busts and subsequent convictions within a span of just ten days. The Commissioner issued a stern warning to criminal networks operating within the region, reiterating the command’s resolve to clamp down heavily on drug trafficking and all forms of criminality.
