Popular Nigerian comedian, actor and skit maker Broda Shaggi has finally broken his silence on the life-threatening ordeal that forced him out of the public eye for months, revealing in chilling detail how a stray bullet struck him in traffic and left him fighting for survival.
In an emotional video uploaded to his YouTube channel on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the entertainer, whose real name is Samuel Animashaun Perry, recounted the terrifying events of March 9, 2026. He had just completed a brand activation with his team near the Sango-Ota Bridge area and was stuck in heavy traffic on the expressway when chaos erupted.
“Suddenly, I heard a loud bang and everywhere went silent. I could see people talking, but I couldn’t hear anything. It was just total silence in the car,” he said. “Then I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when it dawned on me that I had been hit by a stray bullet.”
Panic set in instantly. Emotions ran high as thoughts of death flooded his mind. “Would this be my last day?” he recalled thinking. “I didn’t want to die. I just don’t want to die.” He slipped into unconsciousness shortly after and remained that way until he reached the hospital, praying continuously throughout the journey.
His crew rushed him first to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos, where medical staff administered first aid but quickly determined they lacked the specialised equipment needed for his gunshot wound to the hip/thigh. He was transferred to Duchess Hospital in the GRA area of Ikeja for emergency care.
The injury proved serious enough to require surgery in Nigeria. About four months later, still struggling with mobility, Shaggi travelled to Dubai for further treatment and physiotherapy. The overseas procedure marked a turning point: he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches by the third.
Yet recovery was far from straightforward.
Confined to hospital beds and limited movement for months, the usually energetic performer said he felt “very useless.” Watching colleagues continue to create content left him emotional and fearful that his career might be over and that fans would forget him.
“I could not act, I could not dance, sing or do whatever I loved,” he admitted. At one point he even tried to find meaning in the forced rest, noting that he had barely taken a break since 2018.
Looking back, Shaggi expressed profound gratitude that the stray bullet struck his hip rather than a vital organ. “What if it had come this way and hit my head?” he asked. He described the entire experience as a second chance at life and assured fans he is steadily recovering — now able to stand and walk without crutches though still using them for support — and preparing new projects.
The March 2026 incident had initially sparked widespread concern after reports emerged that the skit maker had been hospitalised. Lagos State Police confirmed the hospital had reported a gunshot victim, while investigations by both Lagos and Ogun commands followed, though the precise origin of the stray bullet remained unclear at the time.
Seven months on, Broda Shaggi’s detailed account has finally closed the chapter of speculation, replacing silence with a powerful story of survival, faith and resilience.
