ACCRA — What began as a heated verbal dispute at a business premises in Ofankor Barrier has ended in unimaginable tragedy, claiming the life of 33-year-old Enoch Abrokwa. His 19-year-old girlfriend, Emmanuella Asante, has been remanded into police custody following a court appearance, as law enforcement agencies piece together the events that led to the fatal altercation.
According to official reports released by the Ghana Police Service, the tragic incident unfolded on Friday, October 9, 2026. The couple reportedly became embroiled in a fierce disagreement at the victim’s shop. As tensions flared, the confrontation escalated violently, culminating in Asante allegedly seizing a piece of broken glass and stabbing Abrokwa.
The attack left the 33-year-old businessman with a profound chest and abdominal wound that severely compromised his internal organs, notably his intestines. Recognizing the gravity of his injuries, family and associates rushed him initially to a medical facility in Taifa-Burkina. Due to the critical nature of the trauma, he was subsequently transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) for urgent specialized surgery.
Despite frantic efforts by medical personnel to save his life, Abrokwa succumbed to his injuries five days later, passing away on October 14 while undergoing continuous treatment.
Police Intervention and Court Proceedings
Law enforcement action was swift following the initial altercation. On October 10—the day after the incident—the suspect was brought directly to the police station by the complainant, accompanied by three other individuals. Authorities confirmed that Asante voluntarily admitted to the stabbing during initial interrogations.
The Tesano Divisional Police Command, working alongside the Accra Regional Police Command, has taken over the comprehensive investigation to determine the exact triggers behind the fatal dispute.
Asante was formally arraigned before a court, where she was ordered to be remanded into police custody. She is expected to make her next court appearance on November 3, 2026, as legal proceedings move forward.
Authorities Appeal for Calm
In the wake of the incident, the Accra Regional Police Command has issued a stern public appeal, urging citizens to eschew violence and adopt peaceful conflict-resolution mechanisms.
”The Accra Regional Police Command urges the public to resolve disagreements peacefully and refrain from violence. The public is also encouraged to cooperate with the Police as investigations continue and appropriate action is taken in accordance with the law,” the police stated.
As the community around Ofankor Barrier reels from the shock of the tragedy, friends, and sympathizers have taken to social media under tags such as #JusticeForEnoch to mourn the loss of the young entrepreneur, while security agencies press ahead with the final stages of their investigation.
