A woman identified as Mrs Rukayat Mohammed has been arrested after a man she lodged with at Good Samaritan Guest House in Gwarimpa, Abuja, reportedly slumped and died in their hotel room.
ValidViewNetwork learnt from sources that two staff members of the facility were detained for allegedly removing the deceased’s body and dumping it under the Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway. The Abuja hotel death woman arrested body dumped incident, which initially sparked fears of a “one chance” robbery or kidnapping, has been unravelled through forensic tracking of the deceased’s missing mobile phone .THE DISCOVERYThe lifeless body of the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was discovered by the roadside under the Katampe Bridge on August 26, 2026 . At the time, the discovery generated speculation linking the death to kidnapping or “one chance” robbery, a common criminal pattern in Abuja where passengers are robbed and thrown from moving vehicles. However, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command refused to rely on assumptions. According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, investigators began working to establish whether the body could be connected to a missing person report filed by the deceased’s family .”Beyond the media reports, however, there was a family grieving and struggling to understand what had happened to their loved one,” Sanusi said during a press briefing in Abuja .THE MOBILE PHONE THAT CRACKED THE CASEThe breakthrough came when investigators discovered that the deceased’s mobile phone was missing . Although the device had been switched off, police operatives were able to trace the last known communication and establish the last person with whom the deceased had communicated .The trail led detectives to Mrs Rukayat Mohammed of Garki Area 2, Abuja . Further investigation revealed that Mohammed, a married woman, was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the deceased and had saved his contact on her phone under the name “Safiyat” .THE HOTEL ROOMPolice established that Mohammed and the deceased had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House on Second Avenue, Gwarimpa, where they spent time together .According to the police, Mohammed told investigators that she discovered the man was no longer breathing and had died . In a video obtained by reporters, she gave her account of what happened.”I went with a man in the hotel. The man slumped and died,” she said. “He went to the bedroom to ease himself (urinate). Coming back, he slumped and died” .She claimed the man had been experiencing health challenges and was taking medication, and that he had previously been taken to the National Hospital for treatment .THE FLIGHT AND THE DUMPINGRather than raising an alarm or reporting the incident to the police, Mohammed allegedly took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the hotel .Asked why she left the room, she claimed she went outside with the phone hoping to contact someone who could be informed about the incident. “I went outside to take his phone and if I can get any of his contacts to call them that something happened like this,” she said, adding that she could not access his contacts .Several hours later, after the hotel management could not establish contact with the occupants of the room, the room was accessed and the deceased’s lifeless body was discovered .Instead of reporting the discovery to the authorities, two members of the hotel management, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the room and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe, where they dumped it under the bridge .”The action was apparently aimed at distancing the hotel and its management from the incident,” Sanusi said .THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUESThe police have stressed that the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death have not yet been established.”The exact cause and circumstances of the deceased’s death still under investigation, other investigative processes are being pursued to determine the full facts of the case,” Sanusi said .The commissioner warned that anyone found to have played a role in the death or the subsequent concealment and abandonment of the body would face the law .WHY IT MATTERSThe case is a grim reminder of the lengths to which individuals and institutions will go to avoid accountability.A man died in a hotel room. Instead of calling the police, the woman he was with took his phone and left. Instead of reporting the death, the hotel staff dumped the body under a bridge and went back to business. It was only because the deceased’s family refused to let his disappearance go unanswered—and because investigators tracked a switched-off phone—that the truth began to emerge. For the family of the deceased, the arrest of three suspects is a measure of justice. But the question of how and why he died remains unanswered.ValidViewNetwork reports that Mohammed, Omeiza, and Bitrus are in police custody. The investigation continues.
