Grabbing Chaos in Ago-Iwoye
What was supposed to be a routine traffic interception in the heart of Ago-Iwoye dramatically descended into unbridled chaos, culminating in a violent confrontation that left law enforcement officers battered and bruised. Now, the Ogun State Police Command is drawing a hard line, dragging three suspects—including a 51-year-old woman—before the magistrate court to face the full wrath of the law for allegedly launching a vicious physical assault on officers executing their sworn duties.
Anatomy of an Ambush
The explosive drama unfolded on September 29 along Fibigbade Street, where a vigilant police team headed by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel flagged down an unregistered Toyota Camry. As officers dutifully took control of the vehicle to impound it at the station, the situation rapidly spiraled out of control.
According to police reports, the convoy was intercepted in a brazen tactical maneuver at Abobi Street. A Toyota Highlander bearing the registration number JJJ 215 JV materialized to aggressively block the path of the impounded vehicle.
What followed was a violent physical showdown. During the ensuing confrontation, Inspector Abolarinwa Wasiu and Corporal Olubamiro Adeniyi were targeted and severely assaulted by the suspects.
Swift Justice and Impending Charges
Incensed by the blatant disregard for authority, the state Commissioner of Police ordered an immediate, high-priority investigation. Detectives swiftly descended upon the crime scene, combed the area for evidence, and tracked down the perpetrators.
Authorities have identified the trio facing imminent arraignment before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court:
- Alaba Mulika, 51, the older woman accused of orchestrating the resistance.
- Alawode Iyanu, 21, facing severe allegations of physical aggression.
- Temitope Saliu, 29, implicated in the coordinated blockade and subsequent attack.
The Legal Fallout
Speaking on the uncompromising stance of the command, the police spokesperson, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed that the suspects will be slammed with a formidable five-count charge.
The extensive indictment covers:
- Criminal conspiracy
- Obstruction of law enforcement officers
- Serious, unprovoked assault on on-duty police personnel
- Conduct likely to cause a catastrophic breach of public peace
As the case heads to court, law enforcement officials hope this decisive action sends an unmistakable warning that assaults on officers will be met with immediate and unyielding judicial consequences.
