Technology executive and Neuralink director Shivon Zilis has opened up about the abrupt end of her romantic relationship with billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, admitting she was completely blindsided by the sudden separation.
Zilis, who shares four children with Musk, took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the breakup after eagle-eyed users noticed the Tesla and SpaceX CEO had abruptly unfollowed her on the platform.
Reflecting on the whirlwind turnaround, Zilis revealed that the transition from partners to separate paths happened within a matter of days.
”It’s hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that’s just how it is sometimes,” Zilis wrote.
Despite the abrupt nature of the split, Zilis maintained a remarkably reflective and gracious tone rather than launching into a public dispute. She shared that she felt immense pride in providing a stable, peaceful, and affectionate sanctuary for Musk away from the demanding and high-stress nature of his corporate empire.
”I feel happy that I got to show Elon how it feels to be deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness,” she expressed, noting that she wanted their family home to act as a safe haven filled with love rather than conflict.
To illustrate how sudden the shift was, Zilis included screenshots of private text exchanges from late September. The messages showed the couple exchanging affectionate words and Musk calling her his “significant other” just days before the relationship dissolved.
The former couple share four children together: twins Strider and Azure born in 2021, daughter Arcadia born in 2024, and son Seldon, whose arrival was announced in 2025. Emphasizing that the children remain her greatest source of fulfillment, Zilis voiced hope that she and Musk can maintain an amicable co-parenting dynamic moving forward.
”I’ve loved him more than life itself and he’s taught me 100 lifetimes of knowledge… I’m hurting, but care deeply about E and will always be cheering for his happiness,” Zilis concluded.
As of press time, Elon Musk has not publicly commented on the breakup.
