Tragedy struck along the Lagos Coastal Road heading inward Eko Hotel when a grey Lexus Jeep 350 lost control, crashed into a roadside pole, and flipped over.
The accident, which occurred on Friday, resulted in the immediate death of one person, while three others sustained severe injuries. According to initial security and traffic reports released by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) through its spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, the driver veered off course before the SUV violently impacted the infrastructure and overturned.
Good Samaritans at the scene rushed to assist LASTMA operatives, helping to extricate the three critically injured victims from the wreckage. They were promptly conveyed to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone to receive urgent medical care. Meanwhile, security operatives from Victoria Island drafted reinforcements to the area, enabling LASTMA officers to clear the mangled vehicle off the highway to forestall secondary collisions and clear up gridlock.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condoled with the bereaved family. He strongly admonished motorists to prioritize safety by moderating speed limits, curbing reckless driving, and obeying road traffic laws to prevent avoidable fatalities. The agency has also encouraged the public to leverage its toll-free emergency hotline, 3367, for immediate response during road mishaps and obstructions.
