BENGHAZI, LIBYA — Security forces in Benghazi have dismantled an underground medical network operating out of a residential property, arresting a Nigerian woman accused of converting her home into an unauthorized maternity ward and clandestine abortion clinic.
According to law enforcement officials, the operation came to light following a targeted intelligence sweep prompted by neighbor complaints regarding suspicious, high-volume foot traffic at a private home. Operating completely outside Libya’s official healthcare regulations, licensing standards, and oversight frameworks, the suspect allegedly offered specialized services including unlicensed deliveries and covert pregnancy terminations.
Upon executing a search warrant authorized by local judicial authorities, police officers uncovered a grim scene inside the domestic quarters. The raid yielded specialized medical equipment, an array of unregulated pharmaceutical supplies, and detailed patient registries that investigators say directly link the dwelling to unlawful medical interventions.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators prepare formal charges, which include practicing medicine without a license, running an uncertified health facility, and violating national public health and safety protocols. Law enforcement agencies have indicated that further investigations are underway to determine if other individuals assisted in running the illicit operation.
