The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday arraigned Alhaji Muhammad Talake before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court over an alleged N3.8 million property fraud.
Talake was docked on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence and criminal misappropriation, following allegations that he collected the sum from Muhammad Umar Ali Abatcha under the guise of facilitating the purchase of a property at Old Government Reservation Area, Circular Road, Maiduguri.
The EFCC alleged that Talake falsely claimed the property had been put up for sale by the Federal Government, a representation the anti-graft agency said was untrue.
When the charges were read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty. Prosecution counsel, S.O. Saka, urged the court to remand him in custody and fix a date for trial.
Justice Kumaliya ordered the defendant remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility and adjourned the matter till August 10, 2026, for hearing of the bail application.
