OBAFEMI OWODE, OGUN STATE – A fresh wave of insecurity has hit the Kobape community in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, as gunmen abducted two residents during a violent attack on Thursday evening.
The victims, identified as Kelvin Ayobami Moyegun and Kehinde Rufai, were seized by a group of approximately four armed hoodlums around 7 p.m. during a confrontation at a residential gate.
According to a relative of one of the victims, the attack occurred when another resident, Olayinka Obadimu, was preparing to leave his home. A neighbor, Al-haqq Shobakin, who stepped out to assist in opening the gate, was confronted by the assailants. While Obadimu managed to escape by driving through the gunfire, Shobakin was shot by the gunmen before they proceeded to take Moyegun and Rufai captive.
Shobakin is currently receiving medical treatment for his gunshot wounds at a private hospital in Abeokuta.
The Ogun State Police Command has officially confirmed the incident. DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, stated that security operatives, including police personnel, have been deployed to the area to conduct a rescue operation and track down the perpetrators. Local community members have also alerted the Amotekun Corps and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to assist in the search.
This incident adds to a series of security challenges recently reported in the Obafemi-Owode axis, which has seen several high-profile kidnapping attempts and clashes in recent months. State authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the nearest security formation.
