Olorunda LCDA Boosts Education with ‘PBAT FEEDS’ School Feeding Initiative

​In a significant stride toward enhancing educational outcomes and pupil welfare, the Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has officially launched the “Adopt A School for Snacks 4 Thought – PBAT FEEDS!” initiative. The programme, which debuted on Tuesday at the Local Authority Primary School in Mowo, saw 500 pupils receive free, nutritious snacks, marking a commitment to the federal government’s broader strategy to combat classroom hunger.

​The initiative, part of the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, is designed to serve as a catalyst for improved academic performance. By providing consistent nourishment, local authorities aim to boost student concentration, increase daily attendance rates, and incentivize enrollment within the public school system.

​During the flag-off ceremony, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, emphasized that the initiative represents a strategic investment in the future of the nation’s youth. He underscored the alignment of the programme with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and lauded the support provided by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, noting that such partnerships are vital for human capital development.

​The event also featured contributions from key stakeholders, including the National Social Investment Programmes Agency, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and Conference 57. Mrs. Idowu Onashile, Head of the Department of Education in Olorunda LCDA, confirmed that the snack distribution will maintain a consistent schedule, operating every Wednesday and Friday to ensure sustained impact.

​Reflecting on the scale of the challenge, Dr. Fowowe S. S., representing the programme’s initiator, Dr. Princess Aderemi Adebowale, issued a clarion call for private sector involvement. He noted that while government support is essential, the sustainability of school feeding programmes relies heavily on the participation of philanthropists, corporate bodies, and community leaders.

​Hon. Afeez Bankole, the Supervisor for Education in Olorunda LCDA, echoed these sentiments, praising the collaboration between the local council and the organizers. He reiterated that the initiative serves as a practical demonstration of the council’s dedication to removing barriers to learning and ensuring that pupils are well-equipped to thrive in their academic pursuits.

​As the “Adopt A School” initiative gains momentum, officials are hopeful that Olorunda’s model of community-government synergy will inspire similar efforts across Lagos State, ultimately ensuring that no child is left behind due to a lack of proper nutrition.
