LAGOS, NIGERIA — Popular Nigerian businessman, media commentator, and younger brother to the former governor of Ekiti State, Isaac Fayose, has announced the tragic passing of his beloved wife after a long and grueling battle with cancer.

Sharing a poignant photograph of his late wife, Fayose penned a brief, emotionally shattered tribute that read, “Rest in peace my darling wife.” He further added in a mixture of grief and deep affection, “Odaro oyibo mi,” a traditional Yoruba parting phrase translating to, “Goodnight, my white woman.”

​The announcement has thrown friends, family, and thousands of his followers into deep mourning, coming just weeks after the entrepreneur opened up publicly about the harsh reality of her deteriorating health.

​“The same woman who usually picks me up at the airport couldn’t come, so I had to take an Uber,” Fayose said during the March broadcast. “She used to cook for me, but now I find myself cooking for her. She can neither cook nor speak. I sat beside her and sang her favourite hymn, ‘Abide With Me,’ in English and Yoruba; she couldn’t respond, but she held my hand tightly as I sang.”

​For a man known for his flamboyant online presence and unreserved commentary, his wife’s illness became a turning point that shifted his entire worldview.
