ABEOKUTA – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has presented 40 brand-new Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to traditional rulers in the state, emphasizing their role as vital partners in governance and security.
The presentation, which took place on Thursday during the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, was described by the Governor as a gesture to enhance the mobility of the monarchs and support their efforts in maintaining peace within their respective domains.

A Bridge Between Government and People
Addressing the traditional rulers, Governor Abiodun hailed the monarchs as the “custodians of culture and tradition” and a critical link to the grassroots. He noted that the distribution of the vehicles is part of his administration’s commitment to the welfare of traditional institutions, ensuring they are well-equipped to carry out their duties.

”Our monarchs are essential partners in our ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda,” the Governor stated. “Beyond enhancing your comfort, these vehicles are meant to aid your movement across your domains to ensure peace and stability, which are the bedrock of any meaningful development.”
Stern Warning on Investor Hostility
The Governor used the occasion to issue a stern warning regarding the growing reports of uncooperative attitudes toward investors in certain parts of the state. He specifically cited communities in Yewa South, Ipokia, and Ijebu North, where resistance to development-driven investments has been reported.

”Development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of hostility and distrust,” Abiodun warned. “We have received disturbing reports of some communities frustrating investors willing to commit significant capital to our economy. This is unacceptable. These investments are the lifelines for job creation and infrastructure growth.”

He urged the monarchs to take a lead role in sensitizing their subjects to be investor-friendly, reminding them that the state’s land is its “oil” and must be managed with integrity to attract global capital.

Security and Land Management
In light of national security challenges, the Governor called for heightened vigilance. He cautioned traditional rulers against indiscriminate land allocation and warned that any property found to be a hideout for criminals would be demolished.

In their responses, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, and the Chairman of the Council of Obas, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, expressed gratitude to the Governor. They pledged the continued support of the traditional institution in fostering an environment conducive to the state’s economic and social progress.
