KANO – In a move to bolster personnel morale and honor the sacrifices of its workforce, the Kano State Police Command has distributed cheques totaling N8.4 million to families of deceased officers and personnel who sustained injuries in the line of duty.
The disbursement, which took place on Friday at the Command’s Headquarters in Bompai, benefited 18 next-of-kin and one police officer. The funds were provided through a strategic combination of the Group Life Assurance, Group Personnel Accident, and the IGP Welfare Scheme.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, personally presented the cheques to the beneficiaries. He noted that the initiative is part of a broader national effort by the force leadership to ensure that no officer or their family is left stranded following service-related tragedies.
“This initiative demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of our officers and their families, particularly those affected by accidents, injuries, or death,” Bakori stated.
The Commissioner urged the recipients to use the funds judiciously to improve their health and livelihoods, describing the financial support as a “token of care” for the bravery exhibited by the officers.
This regional distribution follows a massive national welfare drive led by IGP Disu, who recently oversaw the disbursement of over N2.4 billion to more than 1,000 beneficiaries across the country. The Force has intensified efforts to recover long-standing insurance obligations to ensure timely payments to families of fallen heroes.
The beneficiaries, many of whom were visibly emotional during the ceremony, expressed their gratitude to the police leadership. A representative of the families noted that the support provides a critical lifeline and reinforces their pride in the service rendered by their loved ones.
