Epstein Survivors File Landmark Lawsuit Against U.S.Govt and Google Over Data Breach

​WASHINGTON — In a major legal escalation following the botched release of the “Epstein Files,” a group of survivors filed a class-action lawsuit on Thursday against the United States government and Google. The plaintiffs allege that the Department of Justice (DOJ) “outed” approximately 100 survivors by failing to redact their private information in a massive document dump earlier this year.

​The legal action stems from the January 2026 release of over 3.5 million pages of investigative records related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. While the disclosure was mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act to provide public accountability, the process has been described by plaintiffs as a “deliberate policy choice to prioritize speed over safety.”

​According to the filing in a San Francisco federal court, the unredacted files contained names, phone numbers, physical addresses, and even sensitive images of victims who were legally entitled to anonymity. Journalists at the New York Times reportedly identified dozens of explicit photos within the trove that clearly showed the faces of survivors.

​The survivors, appearing as “Jane Does,” claim they have been subjected to a new wave of harassment. The lawsuit details harrowing accounts of strangers contacting victims via email and phone, issuing physical threats, and falsely accusing them of being co-conspirators rather than victims of Epstein’s trafficking network.

​While the DOJ eventually withdrew the documents to fix the errors, the lawsuit alleges that the damage is being perpetuated by Google. Plaintiffs argue the tech giant has refused repeated pleas to remove the “leaked” personal data from its search results and AI-generated content.

​”Even after the government acknowledged the disclosure violated the rights of the survivors… online entities like Google continuously republish it,” the plaintiffs stated.

​The case against the U.S. government is built on alleged violations of the Privacy Act of 1974. Against Google, the survivors are citing California state laws regarding:
