TREDEGAR, UK — A 30-year-old Nigerian man, Olukanyinsola Odebode, has been handed a 12-year extended sentence by a Swansea Crown Court after being convicted of rape and sexual assault committed while he was on bail.
Odebode, a resident of Gainsborough Road, Cefn Golau, Tredegar, was found guilty during a trial of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration. The severe offences took place between June 2024 and September 2025 across different jurisdictions in Wales.
According to case details, Odebode initially attacked a victim within the Gwent Police area. Following his subsequent arrest and release on bail, he went on to target a second victim in the Dyfed-Powys Police area.
Prosecuting counsel Mark Wyeth KC described the offender as a dangerous individual who “humiliated and degraded his victims,” leaving them with life-altering trauma. A probation service evaluation further underscored Odebode’s attitudes of entitlement, noting his complete lack of insight and total rejection of the jury’s verdict. Victim impact statements presented to the court similarly characterized his behavior as intensely predatory.
The court also heard testimonies revealing that seven other women had flagged concerns regarding Odebode’s sexual conduct to law enforcement dating back to 2019, involving allegations of stalking, indecent exposure, and assault, though those instances had not previously resulted in formal convictions.

Handing down the judgment, Judge Huw Rees labeled Odebode a “sexually precocious person” whose actions inflicted profound suffering. The judge emphasized that an extended sentence was crucial to protect the public from ongoing risks.
The 12-year ruling comprises a nine-year custodial term followed by three years on license. Odebode must serve at least two-thirds of his prison sentence before becoming eligible to request parole review. Additionally, he will remain designated as a lifetime registered sex offender. Defense counsel Matt Murphy noted expectations that the defendant might eventually cultivate remorse and awareness while serving his time.
