Suicide Bomber Kills Seven in Northwest Pakistan

Tuesday, May 12, 2026 — At least seven people have been confirmed dead and 20 others wounded following a devastating suicide bombing in northwest Pakistan. The attack, involving an explosives-laden three-wheeled vehicle, targeted a security checkpoint in a region already reeling from a surge in militant activity.

​According to senior police official Muhammad Sajjad Khan, the assailant approached two traffic officers stationed at the checkpoint before detonating the device. The blast comes just days after a separate car bomb at a checkpoint in Bannu claimed 15 lives, highlighting a deteriorating security situation in the border regions.

​The incident has further strained the fragile relationship between Islamabad and Kabul. On Monday, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned Afghanistan’s top diplomat to issue a formal protest. Pakistani intelligence concluded that recent high-profile attacks were “masterminded by terrorists residing in Afghanistan,” a claim the Taliban government continues to deny.

In response to cross-border strikes, Pakistan has conducted several airstrikes on suspected militant hideouts within Afghan territory.
