Abeokuta, Ogun State – Yesterday, a high-level government delegation, led by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, conducted an extensive inspection of the ongoing comprehensive facelift at the iconic Oluomo Rock tourist site.
The visit aimed to assess the progress of work and ensure strict adherence to specified renovation standards, reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to promoting tourism and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Ogun State.

During the inspection, Governor Abiodun and accompanying top government officials meticulously reviewed the quality of work being done. The Governor reiterated his administration’s vision to transform Oluomo Rock into a world-class destination that truly reflects the beauty and history of Ogun State, reinforcing expectations with the contractors on site.
Oluomo Rock, a majestic granite outcrop steeped in history and folklore, has long been a symbol of Abeokuta and a significant tourist attraction. The current renovations are part of a broader strategic initiative by the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to upgrade key tourist sites across Ogun State, enhancing visitor experience and boosting the local economy.

This ongoing project, which led to the temporary closure of Oluomo Rock for renovations beginning in April 2025, is focused on improving infrastructure, landscaping, visitor facilities, and safety measures, including the functionality of the elevator.

The Governor has consistently emphasized his commitment to making Oluomo Rock the top tourism destination in Nigeria, with plans to attract over 100,000 visitors annually, up from the previous 20,000.
“We are confident that upon completion, Oluomo Rock will not only attract a significant increase in visitors but also catalyze new opportunities for local economic development, job creation, and foster a profound sense of community pride,” stated Governor Abiodun. “Our vision for a vibrant, modern, and culturally rich Ogun State remains firmly on course.

We are deliberate in pushing the frontiers of tourism development, understanding its immense potential as a source of revenue and a driver of sustainable growth.”
This significant investment in Oluomo Rock is expected to yield substantial returns for the state, positioning Ogun State as a premier tourist destination in Nigeria and beyond.
The Governor’s proactive approach to enhancing its cultural landmarks is a testament to his administration’s commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of its citizens.
