BRIGHTON, UK — A profound cloud of grief has settled over the coastal city of Brighton following the tragic drowning of three sisters from West London. On Wednesday, Sussex Police officially identified the victims as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walter, 32, and Rebecca Walter, 31, all residents of the Uxbridge area.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Emergency services rushed to the scene near the Black Rock car park on Madeira Drive at approximately 05:45 BST following reports of a person distressed in the water. Upon arrival, rescue teams made a grim discovery, recovering three bodies from the sea in close proximity to one another.
While the circumstances surrounding how the sisters entered the water remain a mystery, Sussex Police confirmed that a rigorous investigation is actively underway. Authorities have noted that there is currently no evidence of foul play or third-party involvement.
”Specialist detectives are working hard to gather the full facts and circumstances of their deaths,” a spokesperson for Sussex Police stated, adding that the family is currently receiving support from specially trained officers.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through both the local Brighton community and the sisters’ hometown. Expressing the collective sorrow of the city, Brighton & Hove City Council Leader Bella Sankey described the incident as “the most devastating news” the area has faced in recent memory.
”I can’t think of anything more tragic or more horrendous,” Sankey told BBC Radio Sussex.
In a deeply moving statement, the sisters’ father, Joseph, paid tribute to his daughters, describing an “unbearable grief” that has left his family shattered.
”No words can truly describe the pain of losing three daughters in the prime of their lives,” Joseph said, addressing his late daughters directly in a poignant farewell. “Jane, Christina, and Becky were more than daughters to me; they were my joy, my strength, and the beautiful light that filled our family with happiness and love.”
He continued: “Each of you was unique and precious in your own special way. Your smiles brightened dark days, your laughter brought comfort, and your presence made life more meaningful. Though your time on earth was short, the impact you made will remain in our hearts forever.”
As the investigation continues, floral tributes have begun to accumulate near the historic beachfront, left by stunned locals mourning a family utterly broken by the sea.
