Woman, 21,Caught Smuggling Drugs into Ashaiman Police Cell

ASHAIMAN — A daring attempt by a 21-year-old woman to smuggle illicit prescription drugs to her detained boyfriend backfired spectacularly after vigilant officers at the Ashaiman District Police Command intercepted the contraband hidden inside a meat pie.

​The suspect, Anita Amoah, was caught red-handed during a routine contraband screening at the police station in the Greater Accra Region. She has since been arraigned before court and remanded into police custody.

​According to official police reports, Miss Amoah arrived at the station carrying a delivery of yoghurt and a pie, intended as a meal for her boyfriend, Richard Acquah, who was being held in the cells on separate charges.

​However, the routine inspection took an unexpected turn when officers sliced open the pastry. Baked or tucked inside were four tablets of a potent, restricted narcotic substance colloquially known on the streets as “Timaking” or “Red” (a high-dosage variant of Tramadol).

​A Smuggled Direct Line

​Subsequent police interrogations uncovered a deeper breach of security within the holding facility. Investigators revealed that Acquah had managed to secure a contraband mobile phone inside his cell.

​Using the illicit device, he contacted Miss Amoah and gave her precise instructions on how to package and conceal the narcotics inside the food to evade police detection.

​”Both suspects have fully admitted to their roles in the operation,” stated District Crime Officer, Inspector Clement Amoah, who is leading the ongoing investigation. “While Acquah insists the highly addictive tablets were strictly for his personal use, the method and execution point to a serious breach we are actively addressing.”

​Legal Fallout

​The lovers’ culinary conspiracy has only deepened their legal troubles. Miss Amoah’s attempt to comfort her partner has landed her right alongside him behind bars. Following her swift arraignment, the court ordered her to be remanded in police custody. She is scheduled to make her next appearance tomorrow, Thursday, May 21, 2026.

​Meanwhile, police authorities are investigating how the mobile phone was smuggled into the cells, promising internal disciplinary actions should any security lapses or collusion be uncovered.
