ABUJA — A group within the All Progressives Congress has criticised the party’s National Working Committee over its response to political moves linked to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The APC Grassroots Organisation said the party leadership should not remain silent over what it described as attempts to divide the party’s governors.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Mukhtar Tanimu Rabiu, the group alleged that Wike’s political activities could weaken the Progressive Governors Forum.
The organisation also warned that Wike should not be allowed to “balkanize” the APC.
The claims come against the backdrop of Wike’s reported efforts around a broader political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group compared his present activities with his role in the PDP before the 2023 election, when he was part of the G5 governors.
The APC group argued that the experience contributed to internal divisions within the PDP.
That interpretation is the group’s political assessment and remains contested.
Earlier this month, APC governors publicly rejected political arrangements they said could undermine the party or President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The latest dispute therefore reflects a broader question facing Nigeria’s major parties before 2027: how much space should politicians retain for alliances outside the formal structures of their parties?
For the APC, the issue is especially sensitive because Wike remains a member of the opposition PDP while serving as a federal minister under an APC-led government.
The party group is now asking the NWC to make its position clearer. The NWC has not publicly endorsed the accusations made by the grassroots organisation.
As the 2027 political cycle gathers pace, the debate is likely to continue around party discipline, cross-party alliances and the relationship between individual political influence and formal party structures.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the latest criticism comes from an APC grassroots organisation, not from a formal resolution of the party’s National Working Committee or Progressive Governors Forum.
