WARRI, Delta State — The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has executed a major enforcement sweep at the popular Igbudu Market in Warri, confiscating a large cache of suspected counterfeit cosmetics and regulated consumer goods.
The operation, spearheaded by officers from NAFDAC’s Asaba Zonal Office, was launched following actionable intelligence reports regarding the massive influx and retail proliferation of fake products within the commercial hub. To ensure security and compliance, the raid was backed by joint tactical personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and leadership figures from the market union.
Sweep Uncovers Popular Brands
During the targeted sweep, enforcement teams combed through designated shops and hidden warehouses, successfully evacuating various substandard merchandise. Among the confiscated items were counterfeit iterations of high-demand personal care brands, including cosmetics and oral hygiene products bearing the Nivea, Listerine, and SC Johnson labels, alongside other regulated goods.
Fresh Warning on KY Jelly
In addition to the physical seizures, NAFDAC issued an urgent public health advisory regarding KY Jelly lubricant currently circulating in Nigerian markets.
According to official updates from the product’s marketing authorization holders, the last legally authorized batch imported or supplied into the country occurred more than five years ago. The agency warned consumers that any stock of KY Jelly currently found on shelves must be treated as highly suspicious and avoided to prevent potential health hazards.
