PHUKET — Security operations in Thailand’s major tourist hub have dealt another blow to illicit narcotics networks following the arrest of a 36-year-old foreign national.
The Cherng Talay Police executed a high-stakes sting operation that led to the apprehension of a Nigerian man suspected of orchestrating a local cocaine distribution ring. Law enforcement officers swooped in on the suspect, uncovering a localized operation equipped for street-level distribution.
According to police reports, a thorough search of the suspect’s possession yielded approximately 7.3 grams of cocaine—classified strictly under Category 2 narcotics in the country’s legal framework. Beyond the illicit substance itself, authorities recovered critical physical evidence indicating active packaging and sales preparation, including 257 individual plastic baggies. Investigators also confiscated two high-precision digital scales, two communication devices, and a sedan believed to have been utilized for transit during illicit transactions.

The operation underscores an ongoing crackdown by Thai law enforcement agencies targeting transnational narcotics networks operating within resort destinations like Phuket. Drug trafficking laws in the country carry severe penalties, particularly for possession with intent to distribute.

The suspect has been formally booked on preliminary charges of possessing a Category 2 narcotic for the purpose of commercial sale without official authorization. Following the initial booking and processing, he was transferred to specialized investigative units to face formal prosecution as judicial proceedings advance.
