ABUJA — Senator Adams Oshiomhole has defended the economic trajectory of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that the recent approval of a ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance for public servants is concrete proof of the President’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
Speaking during a current affairs interview, the Edo North lawmaker noted that the six-month intervention, which kicks off in November 2026 following agreements with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), amounts to a 100 percent income boost for baseline earners.
“If a man who was on ₦70,000 now is given ₦70,000 addition that makes it ₦140,000 for him, it’s a hundred percent increase. If you know what ₦10,000 means for the real masses, you’ll appreciate that Tinubu has shown that he cares,” Oshiomhole stated.
Under the terms brokered on October 27, workers across all levels are slated to receive the monthly transport intervention, alongside outstanding peculiar allowances disbursed in three equal monthly installments starting this month. However, the intervention has met mixed reactions, with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) pushing back in favor of structural, permanent wage increases rather than temporary relief measures.
Political Jabs at 2027 Opponents
Shifting focus to the fast-approaching 2027 general elections, Oshiomhole framed the ballot as a defining choice between visionary leadership and short-term opportunism.
He criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the economic management style of the past PDP administration, specifically pointing to multiple exchange-rate regimes that he claimed benefited privileged individuals. Conversely, he credited President Tinubu with unifying the foreign exchange market.
The former labour leader also took aim at the standard-bearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, dismissing his economic blueprints.

“Peter Obi has not offered any alternative. I’ve always said that Peter Obi is a trader; the logic of a trader is short-term turnover. A statesman that Tinubu represents thinks of the next generation,” he remarked.
Oshiomhole concluded that rather than experimenting with political newcomers, the electorate should allow President Tinubu to consolidate his reforms after weathering foundational teething problems.
