The Ogun State Police Command has successfully disrupted a night robbery in the Ijaba area of Iyesi, Ota, neutralising one suspected armed robber and recovering two vehicles along with a substantial cache of stolen property.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026, after a concerned resident raised a distress call. Operatives of the Onipanu Divisional Police Headquarters under the Ota Area Command mobilised swiftly and arrived at the scene around 1:45 a.m.

Upon sighting the patrol team, the armed suspects opened fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire. One of the robbers was neutralised during the confrontation, while the remaining members of the gang fled the scene, some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.

A subsequent search of the area yielded two vehicles — a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry — as well as a large assortment of suspected stolen items. These include HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing, an OPay ATM card and other household goods.

From the deceased suspect, police recovered a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, a Tecno mobile phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number (NIN) cards and some cash.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the details in a statement issued on Sunday. He said the command has intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, particularly those who may have been injured, while investigations continue to determine the ownership of the recovered vehicles and other exhibits and to establish any links to previous criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for their prompt response, professionalism and courage. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing, sustained patrols and rapid response to security threats across the state.
The CP urged residents to remain vigilant, go about their lawful activities without fear, and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the police. He stressed that public cooperation remains vital to effective crime prevention and community safety.
