ABEOKUTA — The political landscape of Ogun State is currently witnessing a fierce battle of narratives following a scathing press statement issued by the Abayomi Hunye Campaign Organisation. The camp has launched a blistering counter-offensive against Kayode Odunaro, the Media Adviser to Senator Solomon Adeola (popularly known as Yayi), accusing him of peddling outright falsehoods and attempting to subvert the course of justice.
The latest escalation stems from recent comments made by Odunaro during a media appearance, where he claimed that Hon. Abayomi Hunye—a prominent aspirant within the All Progressives Congress (APC)—scored “zero votes” across all 236 wards in the state during the party’s primary process.
A Mathematical Absurdity or Imposed Reality?
Describing the “zero-vote” narrative as a desperate fabrication, the Hunye campaign team argued that it is statistically impossible for a grassroots contender with deep-seated loyalists across the three senatorial districts to record a blank ballot.
”To claim that Hon. Abayomi Hunye scored zero votes is a direct insult to the intelligence of thousands of APC faithful who stood courageously in the sun to vote for genuine, home-grown leadership. A zero-vote allocation is not an election result; it is a manufactured figure written in secret rooms to validate an orchestrated imposition,” the statement read.
The campaign further pointed out a glaring contradiction in their opponents’ posture, questioning why Senator Adeola’s camp would deploy extensive financial and media resources to discredit a candidate they claim has zero electoral value, if not for deep-seated panic.
Accusations of Sub-Judice Meddling
Beyond the electoral controversy, the Hunye camp raised grave concerns over what it termed a calculated attempt to undermine the judiciary. They specifically faulted Odunaro’s assertion that a court verdict had already validated the primary election results and confirmed the zero-vote status.
Clarifying the legal position, the campaign stressed that the lawsuit—Abayomi Semako Hunye v. APC & 2 Ors.—is very much active and sub-judice. According to the campaign, no judgment has been delivered by the court; rather, proceedings involving Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) from all sides recently resulted in an adjournment until November 18, 2026.
”Where did Odunaro get his fictional court verdict? Is Senator Adeola’s camp now running a parallel court system? Or are they actively trying to blackmail the judiciary, prejudice the mind of the honorable judge, and manufacture a verdict in the court of public opinion?” the statement queried, warning against attempts to influence the bench ahead of the November date.
Intimidation Tactics and Suspensions
Addressing ancillary rumors of party suspensions and criminalization threats leveled against their principal, the campaign dismissed them as classical political intimidation designed to silence dissenting voices within the Ogun APC. They maintained that Hon. Hunye remains an unblemished and bonafide leader of the party, unfazed by sponsored media trials.
The Battle Moves to the Courtroom
Concluding the strongly worded statement signed by Femi Oyewale, Media Aide to the Campaign Organisation, the team called on loyal party members, residents of Ogun State, and the legal community to disregard the radio commentaries and media trial.
Insisting that democracy and candidate legitimacy cannot be decided via media grandstanding, the campaign expressed absolute confidence that the judiciary will thoroughly examine the internal party processes and ensure that truth prevails when the matter reconvenes in November.
