A hospital owned by former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike in Imo State has been invaded by individuals allegedly linked to a state waste-management agency and armed police officers, who reportedly assaulted staff and patients and took away the hospital administrator and cashier.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, just days after the former footballer publicly accused some state governors of embezzling public funds.
THE INVASION
Emenike made the allegations in a series of posts on his verified Instagram handle, sharing videos that purportedly showed armed men in uniform arresting members of his hospital staff.
According to his account, the incident followed an earlier invasion by police officers on September 25, 2026, purportedly on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer of Owerri Urban Division.
“Emenike Hospital has reported that individuals said to be from an Imo State waste-management agency, after an earlier invasion of the officers of the police force on the order of the DPO Owerri, Urban Division on 25th September, 2026, entered its premises, assaulted staff and patients, and took away the hospital administrator and cashier,” Emenike wrote .
He alleged that armed police officers from Oji Police Station were involved in the latest invasion and called for an urgent, impartial investigation .
THE DEMANDS
Emenike issued a series of demands to the Imo State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, and relevant oversight authorities:
· Establish what happened and identify everyone involved
· Release the administrator and cashier wrongly detained after being brutalised at Oji Police Station
· Ensure anyone injured receives medical care and that witnesses can report safely
· Preserve and review available CCTV footage, incident records and other evidence
· Take appropriate action against any official or agency found to have acted unlawfully
“No enforcement operation should endanger patients, disrupt emergency care or use violence against hospital staff. Public institutions must act within the law, and allegations of abuse must be investigated transparently,” he said .
THE PAINFUL IRONY
Emenike reflected on his decision to invest in his home state after a successful international career.
“After representing my dear country on the international stage, playing in Europe and celebrating the trophy of winning the Africa Cup of Nations, I chose to bring my experience and success home to Imo State,” he said.
“I invested in my community and built a hospital—a place where people could seek care, find comfort and hold on to hope. It was a gesture of faith in my people and a commitment to helping my home state thrive”.
“That is why the reports of what happened today, 21st October, 2026, at Emenike Hospital are so painful. A place built to care for people should never become a place where patients are afraid, and staff are left feeling unsafe”.
THE PRECEDING CRITICISM
The invasion came just days after Emenike publicly criticised Nigerian governors over alleged mismanagement of public funds. In an Instagram post on October 13, 2026, he described Nigeria as an “embezzlement ground” and accused some governors of lacking plans for their states while prioritising personal enrichment .
“The arrogance and confidence in some of these governors make me sick, and a lot of them don’t have good plans for the future of their state zero plans; e.g., just embezzle money, and una police and army go still follow them with empty stomachs, jokers,” he wrote .
“Nigeria is finished and gone. We thought it was a country when we played, not knowing that it is an embezzlement ground. Embezzlement group of companies”.
He did not name any specific governor in the post.Whether the hospital invasion is connected to his criticism of governors remains unproven. But the timing has raised eyebrows.

WHY IT MATTERS
The invasion of Emenike’s hospital is a chilling reminder of the vulnerability of private investments in Nigeria, even for celebrated public figures.
A hospital is supposed to be a sanctuary—a place of healing. When armed men storm such a facility, assault patients and staff, and arrest the administrator, the message is unmistakable: no one is safe.
For Emenike, the incident is a bitter irony. He returned home to invest, to give back, to build something that would serve his community. And he was rewarded with an invasion.
The police and the Imo State Government have not responded to the allegations. Until they do, the questions will linger.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the hospital administrator and cashier remain in custody. The investigation has not been announced.
