A Yobe State High Court sitting in Damaturu has sentenced 45-year-old Abubakar Musa, widely known as Daddy, to death by hanging for the 2024 murder of his wife, Ammi Mamman.
Presiding over High Court-1, the trial judge dismissed the defendant’s plea of not guilty, ruling that the prosecution successfully established all essential elements of culpable homicide. The court concluded that the evidence and witness testimonies presented throughout the two-year trial proved the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.

Chronology of Events
The tragic event occurred on January 4, 2024, at approximately 4:48 AM at the couple’s residence in the New Bra-Bra Housing Estate, Damaturu. Investigators revealed that Musa fatally stabbed his wife in the neck while they were in bed together.
Following the attack, Musa alerted a neighbor, claiming that his wife was bleeding. An emergency ambulance was rushed to the scene to convey her to a nearby medical facility, where attending physicians pronounced her dead upon arrival.

Operatives of the Yobe State Police Command apprehended Musa later that same day. He was subsequently arraigned and prosecuted for culpable homicide, culminating in the capital verdict delivered by the court.
Legal Status and Appeal Window
Under Nigerian criminal jurisprudence, the convict retains the constitutional right to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal within the stipulated statutory period. Unless the appellate court overturns or commutes the ruling, the judgment will proceed toward full legal execution.
