General Overseer of Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has said his ministry does not collect tithes, insisting that his primary mission is to demonstrate spiritual power, ValidViewNetwork reports.
The cleric disclosed this during an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, in an episode uploaded to YouTube on Monday.
WHAT HE SAID
ValidViewNetwork gathered that Odumeje accused churches that stress tithing of being more interested in emptying members’ pockets than in showing practical evidence and miracles.
Findings show that he does not view tithing as wrong. In his words, the decision to pay is a matter between a person and God
ValidViewNetwork reports that he also condemned the practice of telling members that failing to pay tithes would bar them from heaven, calling it ungodly.
A DEBATE OLDER THAN THE PODCAST
Tithing divides Nigerian Christianity. Some pastors teach it as a divine rule. Others, including some well-known preachers, argue it belongs to the old covenant.
Checks by ValidViewNetwork confirm that Odumeje’s view sits between the two. He neither condemns the practice nor requires it.
THE QUESTION HE LEAVES OPEN
A ministry that collects no tithes still has costs, such as buildings, staff and outreach. ValidViewNetwork gathered no information in the reports reviewed on how Odumeje’s ministry funds itself.
Observers may want to know whether offerings, gifts or other income cover the bills. The sociologist Max Weber described charismatic authority as resting on personal proof rather than office.
A leader who stakes his name on demonstrations carries a heavier burden than one who relies on doctrine. If the miracles fail, the doctrine of free giving does not rescue him. If they succeed, the money questions fade.
ValidViewNetwork can confirm that believers and sceptics are already judging for themselves.
