TEHRAN — The Iranian government has formally stepped up its diplomatic pressure on Paris, urging French authorities to immediately halt the alleged suppression of peaceful demonstrations and address public grievances through dialogue rather than force.
The admonition from Tehran follows weeks of intense domestic unrest across France, driven initially by student-led protests over deteriorating school conditions and expanding into broader public discontent over rising living costs.
Iranian Foreign Ministry officials pointed to reports detailing thousands of detentions and harsh police interventions, calling for transparent investigations into allegations of severe force used by security units. The stance has further strained bilateral relations, coming on the heels of Paris summoning Iran’s ambassador over what French officials termed a state-backed disinformation campaign.
The friction deepened further as Tehran issued travel advisories warning its citizens against non-essential travel to France and neighboring European nations experiencing parallel unrest.
