The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned candidates against accepting admission offers outside its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), saying such offers may not be recognised as valid.
The JAMB warns candidates admission outside CAPS advisory was issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, as part of the board’s effort to curb illegal admissions in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
THE WARNING
In a message shared on its official platform, JAMB told candidates that an admission offered by an institution outside the approved JAMB admission process may not be recognised as valid.
The board warned that accepting such an offer could put a candidate’s academic journey at risk and create complications with admission records and related processes.
JAMB urged prospective students to verify their admission status on CAPS before accepting any offer. “Your admission journey deserves the right foundation. Verify before you accept,” the board said.
WHAT CAPS DOES
CAPS — the Central Admissions Processing System is the platform through which JAMB processes and monitors admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
It allows candidates to check their admission status and accept or reject provisional offers, while enabling institutions to process admissions through the approved system.
According to JAMB’s admission guidelines, any offer of admission from a tertiary institution without a JAMB admission letter is illegal and is not recognised by the board.
Candidates who accept admission through CAPS and print their admission letters have their details transferred to JAMB’s matriculation list, which serves as the official record of legally admitted students.
WHY IT MATTERS
The warning is significant because illegal admissions undermine the integrity of Nigeria’s education system and harm the students who fall victim to them.

Candidates who accept such admissions may find themselves without valid credentials after years of study. They may also face exclusion from the National Youth Service Corps, professional certifications and postgraduate admissions.
The problem is not merely administrative. It affects real people who invest time, money and hope in qualifications that may not be recognised. ValidViewNetwork reports that JAMB has advised candidates to verify their admission status on CAPS before accepting any offer.
