Joyful Reunion as Kwara Rescues 146 Woro Captives

​Residents of Woro and Kaiama communities in Kwara State experienced an emotional return to normalcy on Friday as 146 kidnap victims joyfully reunited with their families after enduring months of captivity.

​The emotional homecoming followed a 21-day rehabilitation program in Ilorin, backed by a financial intervention package from the Kwara State government. During a reception at the palace of the Emir of Kaiama, local officials revealed that over N80 million in cash support had been disbursed to help the survivors rebuild their lives. Adult victims received N1 million each, youths were given N500,000, and children received N200,000 to restart businesses and recover from trauma.

​While the community celebrated the milestone, local leaders and families noted that challenges remain. Three victims are still receiving hospital treatment, and 13 others remain in captivity, prompting calls for intensified rescue operations. Community stakeholders also urged the government to bolster security around the national park boundaries, restore local electricity, and provide targeted support for displaced farmers striving to revive the region’s agricultural economy.
