APC, PDP Clash Over Disrupted Kwara Empowerment Event

​Political friction ahead of the 2027 general elections intensified in Kwara State over the weekend following the disruption of a empowerment programme organized by the Kwara Central All Progressives Congress Women Leader, Tawakalitu Agaka.

​The event, held at Agaka’s family residence in Ilorin to support women, youths, and widows, turned contentious when opposition-leaning individuals arrived at the venue, triggering verbal confrontations and chants that required security intervention.

​War of Words Erupts

• ​The Ruling APC Position: The party condemned the incident as a regression into political thuggery. Government spokespersons accused loyalists of former Senate President Bukola Saraki and PDP governorship hopeful Bolakale Kawu of attempting to muzzle opposition and intimidate grassroots mobilizers.
• ​The Opposition PDP Stance: Dismissing the thuggery allegations, the PDP argued that the confrontation was a spontaneous expression of frustration by neglected residents. The party criticized the timing of the outreach, terming it a last-minute attempt to buy loyalty after years of alleged underdevelopment.

​Both parties have since called on security agencies to maintain order as the state gears up for a fiercely contested electoral cycle.
