Amirah Salihu, a rescued community nurse and daughter of the Woro community chief in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, has shared harrowing details of her nearly six-month captivity following a February 3 terrorist attack.
Salihu revealed that she successfully delivered 10 babies for pregnant women using her bare hands and lacking basic medical supplies. According to her, captives endured severe deprivation, including living by riverbanks exposed to heavy rain and surviving on sparse rations of guinea corn seasoned only with salt.
Rescue and Aftermath
The victims were among 176 women and children abducted during the raid, which also claimed the lives of Salihu’s two brothers. The hostages regained their freedom on Wednesday.
Kwaran State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed the survivors in Ilorin, commiserating with families over the tragic death of 13 children who perished during the ordeal. Medical teams have since been deployed to treat survivors, including mothers who gave birth under dire conditions in the forest.
