TEMA — A Ghanaian court has delivered a severe blow to transnational cyber-syndicates, sentencing two Nigerian nationals to 20 years in prison each following a brutal human trafficking and forced cybercrime ring operation.
The Tema Circuit Court ‘B’, presided over by Her Honour Naomi Adusei Amamiampong Kucour, found Kingsley Ndifon (29) and Emmanuel Akong (25) guilty on multiple counts, including human trafficking and causing severe physical harm. The convicts will serve concurrent sentences totaling two decades behind bars.
Deception and Captivity in Sebrepor
The landmark ruling stems from a dramatic rescue operation on August 20, 2023, in Sebrepor, a suburb of Tema. Acting on a desperate distress call regarding individuals held against their will, a joint team of local police and vigilant residents stormed a residential compound.
Authorities successfully liberated 11 Nigerian nationals who had been locked inside the premises. A subsequent search uncovered 16 laptops, an iPad, and evidence of systematic control. Investigators revealed that the victims had been lured from Nigeria with lucrative job offers, only to have their identification cards and mobile phones confiscated upon arrival in Ghana.

Brutality and Cyber Exploitation
Once trapped, the victims were subjected to intensive psychological and physical torment to coerce them into online financial fraud. Police reports disclosed that the captives were fed a meager single meal per day and suffered horrific violence—including beatings with laptop cables and machetes that left them with severe cutlass wounds and in states of acute malnutrition.
The Tema Regional Police Command has hailed the verdict as a vital testament to its zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking and modern-day cyber-slavery, urging citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities.
