OGUN STATE — The Ogun State Police Command has dealt a heavy blow to criminal networks across the state, dismantling a notorious cattle rustling syndicate and simultaneously thwarting a separate highway abduction attempt.
The twin operations, announced by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, highlight a weekend of intense tactical interventions led by the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, aimed at reinforcing security along major economic corridors and rural farming settlements.
Midnight Raid and Highway Interception in Sagamu
The first breakthrough occurred in the early hours of July 25, 2026, following a distress call from a local cattle yard situated in the Maskoli area of Sagamu. Armed members of a specialized theft ring had invaded the ranch, successfully carting away seven prized cows.
Upon receiving the alert, operatives attached to the Sagamu Division immediately activated a swift response protocol, locking down potential escape vectors and mounting strategic roadblocks along key transit corridors.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the operatives intercepted a suspicious blue Nissan Cabster bus speeding along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway. Realizing they were cornered, the occupants abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Police tactical teams successfully apprehended two suspects—identified as Abiodun Kamilu (35) and Adesanya Segun (37)—and recovered six of the seven stolen cattle packed inside the getaway vehicle.
Authorities have launched an extensive manhunt for fleeing members of the ring, while efforts are underway to track down the final missing cow.
Kidnap Attempt Foiled at Onigaari
In a parallel security operation on July 26, the command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team successfully neutralized a kidnapping plot at the notorious Onigaari stretch along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
While conducting routine confidence-building patrols, officers heard sporadic gunshots ringing out from the brush near the highway. Moving swiftly toward the source of the gunfire, the tactical team brought heavy pressure to bear on the armed hoodlums, forcing them to abandon their captive and scatter into the dense surrounding forest.
The targeted motorist was rescued completely unhurt. Officers safely escorted the victim and his vehicle to the Ogunmakin Police Post for debriefing and medical clearance before allowing him to continue his journey.
Command Reassures Public
Commending the officers for their professional conduct and tactical discipline, CP Bode Ojajuni emphasized that the recent successes validate the command’s strategic transition toward proactive, intelligence-driven policing.
