MAIDUGURI — Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully arrested Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu, a runaway soldier previously declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for allegedly supplying military uniforms and accoutrements to terrorists and criminal networks.
The suspect, formerly attached to the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory in Lagos, was tracked down and apprehended at about 6:30 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by operatives of the 7 Provost Group acting on actionable human intelligence.
Military sources revealed that Private Amutu had absconded from his duty post and infiltrated Maiduguri, where he hid out in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the aid of an accomplice. He was intercepted at Jidari Bus Stop while attempting to escape across the border into the Republic of Cameroon.
The suspect is currently being detained at the 7 Provost Group facility, where military investigators are grilling him to uncover the full network of collaborators aiding the illicit diversion of military hardware.
The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for compromise, subversion, or any conduct threatening national security. Authorities have commended the vigilance of informants and urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely information to completely root out insurgency elements in the region.
