ABUJA — The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has declared that Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has firmly emerged across the country as the definitive and credible alternative to incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Sunday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APM, Abubakar Yusuf, emphasized that the party is actively forging a formidable, wide-reaching opposition coalition with Governor Makinde serving as the primary rallying point for a national political reset.
According to the party, the decision to field Makinde stems from his recognized administrative track record in Oyo State, which has struck a chord with citizens grappling with economic hardship and insecurity.
Building a Broad-Based Coalition
The APM leadership noted that cross-party alignment talks are moving swiftly, positioning the platform as a fast-growing vehicle designed to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Recent political realignments have seen significant stakeholder buy-in, underscored by large-scale gatherings such as the recent event in Ado-Ekiti, where thousands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members and local stakeholders formally threw their weight behind Makinde’s presidential aspiration while maintaining their baseline party structures.
”We are working very hard and putting all our energy into this election because we are running to win,” Yusuf stated. “We have a good presidential candidate in Governor Makinde, who has already become the rallying point for Nigerians, especially the youth.”
Focus on Issue-Based Campaign and Governance Reform
The opposition platform stressed that its campaign strategy would pivot away from traditional, recycled political rhetoric, focusing instead on structural solutions to Nigeria’s pressing challenges—spanning national security architecture, economic stability, and transparent resource management.
Since accepting the APM nomination, Makinde has repeatedly emphasized the necessity of decentralizing security control to empower sub-national leadership, reforming petroleum pricing templates, and addressing acute food security gaps through data-driven agricultural planning.
”We are building the numbers, we are strengthening the structure, and we will run one of the most robust, issue-based, and winning campaigns in the history of Nigeria,” Yusuf added. “We welcome all Nigerians who share this vision to join the APM and be part of the movement for national renewal.”
