Washington Demands Justice for Dachomo Family

​ABUJA — The United States government has issued a strong condemnation following the brutal murder of nine family members of Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo in Plateau State, labeling the assault as horrific and pressing Nigerian authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.

​The July 12 raid on the Kum community in the Riyom Local Government Area claimed the lives of nine members of the cleric’s extended family, including a two-month-old infant. According to accounts from survivors and local leaders, armed assailants specifically asked for the prominent cleric by name before opening fire on the compound.

​In an official statement released via social media, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria expressed deep alarm over persistent violence directed at Christian communities and vulnerable populations across the Middle Belt.

​”The United States strongly condemns the horrific killing of members of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo’s family in Plateau State, Nigeria. The continued violence targeting Christian communities and other vulnerable populations in Nigeria’s Middle Belt is deeply alarming,” the statement read.

​Growing Security Pressures in the Middle Belt

​Reverend Dachomo, who serves as the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi, has long been an outspoken critic of regional violence and mass casualty incidents impacting farming communities. He maintains that his family compound was singled out due to his vocal advocacy and refusal to remain silent about ongoing security failures.

​Following the tragedy, the cleric reported receiving written death threats warning that he remains a primary target. International human rights groups and foreign partners have echoed calls for heightened security measures.

​The U.S. State Department emphasized that ongoing stability relies heavily on safeguarding vulnerable populations and ensuring accountability regardless of background.

​”As I discussed last week with Nigerian officials, we must do more to prevent violent acts like those yesterday. The perpetrators must be held accountable, and urgent action is needed to strengthen security and protect Christians and other vulnerable communities,” the U.S. Mission noted.

​Federal authorities in Abuja have expressed condolences over the tragedy while reiterating commitments to thoroughly investigate security breaches and curb violent extremism across troubled zones.
