The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has officially approved the elevation of 68 legal practitioners to the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). The announcement was made following the committee’s 174th Plenary Session, presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Out of the successful applicants, 67 individuals scaled through the rigorous selection process under the advocate category, while Prof. Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri emerged as the sole successful candidate under the academic category. The newly elevated silks successfully navigated through initial shortlisting, public scrutiny, and defense stages from an initial pool of applicants.
The formal swearing-in ceremony for the newly minted Senior Advocates has been scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, to coincide with the commencement of the new legal year. In line with statutory guidelines and ethical regulations, the LPPC has sternly reminded all successful candidates to refrain from publishing or encouraging congratulatory advertisements in the media ahead of the formal inauguration.
