Tragedy in Ekpoma: NANS Condemns Killing of AAU Student

​The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a stern call for justice and immediate security intervention following the brutal killing of a 300-level Anatomy student at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State. The student was reportedly shot dead by suspected kidnappers who invaded his off-campus hostel late last night, a tragedy that has sent shockwaves through the academic community.

​In an official statement released on Monday, NANS President, Olushola Oladoja—popularly known as Babtee—expressed profound grief and condemnation over the incident. He emphasized that the loss of a student in such a violent manner is an unacceptable violation of the sanctity of life and the right to pursue an education without fear.

​“No parent should have to bury their child, and no student should lose their life while pursuing an education,” the NANS President stated, extending his deepest condolences to the grieving family, the university management, and the entire student body.

​The incident has reignited concerns regarding the deteriorating security climate in Ekpoma, a town that has witnessed several security challenges in recent months, including reports of kidnappings and clashes that have previously resulted in protests and unrest.

​NANS has formally urged security agencies to prioritize a comprehensive investigation into the murder, demanding that the perpetrators be apprehended and brought to justice to serve as a deterrent. Furthermore, the student body is calling on state and federal authorities to implement immediate, robust security measures for off-campus housing areas, where the majority of students reside and often remain vulnerable to criminal attacks.
