Three suspects involved in the murder of veteran Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, were arraigned today, Monday, July 6, 2026, at Magistrate Court 3, Isabo, Abeokuta.
The suspects, led by the prime accused, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, appeared before the court following a breakthrough in police investigations. Philip, who previously served as a security guard for the late Oyesiku, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara, Abeokuta. He is joined in the suit by two alleged accomplices: Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and 36-year-old bricklayer Sobu Obafunsho.
Case Background
The tragic incident occurred at the victims’ residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta on June 20, 2026. According to the Ogun State Police Command, the suspects gained entry into the residence after overpowering Pelumi Adetayo at the security post. Following the double murder, the assailants fled with the broadcaster’s Lexus RX330, which was later recovered through intelligence-led operations in the Onikolobo area.
Key Evidence
During a prior press briefing, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, revealed that forensic analysis of a handwritten note discovered inside the stolen vehicle provided investigators with critical leads. Additionally, police recovered several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, and a black pen, which were linked to the scene of the crime.
Motive and Confession
The primary suspect, Philip, reportedly confessed to coordinating the attack as a means to “teach her a lesson” due to long-standing grievances related to his former employment at the household. While the suspects have provided statements to the authorities, the command has emphasized its commitment to a thorough and diligent prosecution to ensure justice is served for both victims.
Investigation into the matter remains ongoing as the court proceedings move forward.
