LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 33-year-old Louisville woman is facing a murder charge following the death of her boyfriend, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent domestic altercation late last month.
Marvinesha Hopkins was taken into custody on June 26, one day after the victim died at a local hospital. Court records indicate that the incident began on June 20, when a dispute between the couple turned physical.
According to statements Hopkins provided to the Louisville Metro Police Department, the confrontation escalated after her boyfriend allegedly struck her in the face. Hopkins admitted to retaliating with a glass bottle and a wooden stick. Investigators allege that during the course of the struggle, Hopkins also struck the victim with a wooden board embedded with nails.
Emergency responders transported the man to the hospital, where he remained unconscious and dependent on a ventilator for several days. Medical staff identified a significant laceration to the victim’s head as a primary injury. He passed away on June 25.
While Hopkins was initially apprehended on assault-related charges, the upgrade to murder followed the victim’s death. She is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. Her next scheduled court appearance is set for July 6.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter.
