Woman Faces Murder Charge After Fatal Domestic Dispute

​LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 33-year-old Louisville woman is facing a murder charge following the death of her boyfriend, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent domestic altercation late last month.

​Marvinesha Hopkins was taken into custody on June 26, one day after the victim died at a local hospital. Court records indicate that the incident began on June 20, when a dispute between the couple turned physical.

​According to statements Hopkins provided to the Louisville Metro Police Department, the confrontation escalated after her boyfriend allegedly struck her in the face. Hopkins admitted to retaliating with a glass bottle and a wooden stick. Investigators allege that during the course of the struggle, Hopkins also struck the victim with a wooden board embedded with nails.

​Emergency responders transported the man to the hospital, where he remained unconscious and dependent on a ventilator for several days. Medical staff identified a significant laceration to the victim’s head as a primary injury. He passed away on June 25.

​While Hopkins was initially apprehended on assault-related charges, the upgrade to murder followed the victim’s death. She is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. Her next scheduled court appearance is set for July 6.

​Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter.
