IBADAN — A chilling wave of insider betrayal has hit the family of the former Minister of Power and 2027 Oyo State governorship aspirant, Chief Adebayo Adelabu. The Oyo State Police Command confirmed Monday that a personal assistant to a member of the Adelabu family served as the mastermind behind the high-profile abduction of the former minister’s sister and her 12-year-old twin sons.
The victims—Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul (43), a recent retiree of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and her twin sons, Peter and Paul—were violently intercepted at around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The armed gang ambushed her ash-coloured Toyota Corolla along Elewura Street, off Ring Road in Ibadan, while she was driving her children to school.
The Inside Informant
Appearing on Channels Television on Monday, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, revealed that preliminary investigations exposed deep-seated collusion from within the family’s trusted circle.
”The investigation revealed that one of the personal assistants to a family member was involved in the conspiracy that led to the kidnapping,” Ayanlade disclosed. “The suspect provided critical information regarding movements, routines, and lifestyle, proving the operation was meticulously orchestrated using inside intelligence.”
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abimbola Olugbenga, noted that the syndicate had actively monitored the family for weeks. Armed with precise data on the children’s school run, the criminal network struck with clinical precision.
Coordinated Raid and Gun Battle
The abduction triggered an intensive, multi-agency manhunt directed by the Inspector-General of Police. Operatives from the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), working alongside the Oyo State Command, tracked the network via digital evidence and strategic surveillance.
The breakthrough came with the arrest of a notorious suspect on the command’s watchlist, Wale Abolalewa, widely known as “Oloro.” His interrogation cracked the case wide open, leading detectives to another key operative, Dare Oyedele (alias “Solution”), and eventually to the gang’s secluded hideout at Araromi Quarters, Ayegun North, in the Oluyole Local Government Area.
On Saturday evening, June 6, at approximately 7:30 p.m., tactical teams stormed the location. Upon arrival, a lookout identified as Kelechi opened fire on the advanced security team. In the fierce gun duel that ensued, police sharpshooters neutralized Kelechi and an unidentified accomplice.
Arrests, Recoveries, and Asset Demolition
Mrs. John-Paul and her sons were rescued entirely unharmed from the hideout after three days in captivity.
Following the successful raid, the police arrested two additional accomplices:
- Semiu Ishola (39) – Accused of facilitating the logistics and hideout.
- Adeyemi Ayobami (35) – Accused of providing structural support to the syndicate.
Weapons and Items Recovered

In a swift punitive administrative measure, officials from the Oyo State Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, escorted by heavily armed police personnel, have completely demolished the building used as the kidnappers’ den in the Lako community area. A Worrying Trend of Domestic BetrayalSecurity experts have expressed deep concern over the operational mechanics of this case, citing a steep rise across Nigeria in abductions fueled by domestic staff, drivers, relatives, and close aides. The Oyo State Police Command has restated that intense investigations are still underway to track down remaining syndicate members who fled into the fringes of Ibadan with gunshot wounds. Authorities have strongly urged medical facilities and local residents to report individuals seeking treatment for sudden, suspicious ballistic injuries. This report from TVC News provides an early broadcast overview detailing how the armed gunmen initially intercepted Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her children during their school commute.
