The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid al-Adha celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
According to the minister, the declaration reflects the Federal Government’s respect for the faith, values, and spiritual heritage of Muslims across Nigeria and around the world observing the sacred festival.
Tunji-Ojo extended the Federal Government’s congratulations and best wishes to Muslim faithful in the country and in the diaspora as they celebrate Eid al-Adha.
He described the festival as one of deep spiritual importance, emphasising the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, compassion, and generosity toward others.
The minister urged Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for the peace, unity, security, and continued progress of the nation.
He also called on citizens to embrace the spirit of brotherhood, peaceful coexistence, and national unity during the celebration.
“The Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous Eid al-Adha celebration,” the statement said.
